USB3 drive(HDD) disconnect-reconnect issue on intel chipset, solution worked for me(Windows 7 x64 & Windows 8 x64)
******* USE AT YOUR OWN RISK *******
* Download and install latest(*) Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=21129
* Download and install latest(*) Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Driver from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=19880
* Run USB 3.0 Host Controller Utility (Comes with Renesas Driver) and check "Disable USB 3.0 power management functions" checkbox.
* Reboot your computer.
* Done ;)

(*) If it's not, search for the latest.


Solution above is not working on Windows 10

To disable USB3 Link Power Management on Windows 10

You have to unhide USB3 Link Power Management on Advanced Power Settings
Regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\2a737441-1930-4402-8d77-b2bebba308a3\d4e98f31-5ffe-4ce1-be31-1b38b384c009
Attributes DWORD

1 = Hide
2 = Show

This will show USB 3 Link Power Management on Advanced Power Settings and you can disable Power Management under USB Settings
